One of the finer things about being a blogger from way back when (four years, I think) is that the friends I've made have sustained me through rough times and celebrated with me in good times. And, I hope, the blogistas and blogadors know that the support and rejoicing comes back to them from me, tenfold, at least.
Right now I want to celebrate Clancy, who, with her husband, Jonathan, is awaiting the birth of their first child. Clancy's blog, Culture Cat, was one of the first blogs I began reading, and while she worked her brilliant way through her research and earned her doctorate, I would read her blog to get up to speed on feminist theory, technology and composition, and, well, technology. Often I found myself having to slow down and take notes, just as I would do at Mike's blog or at Jeff's.
Still do. It's professionally enriching to be able to read these blogs and the rest of those on my blogroll, not only because of the knowledge I gain from every reading, but from the ability to speak with other academics and discuss their ideas without having to be at a conference where everyone else has questions and pulls on their time.
